It’s easy to get lost in an argument, but the best thing you can do when you come to a stand still is to take advantage of it. Whether that means going for a walk, sitting down to read a book, or spending a bit of time on a hobby, doing something to clear your head is always in your best interest.

Consider Your Argument Fully

You may have also realized that you get to a point in your argument where you almost forget what you’re even fighting about in the first place. If that’s the case, utilize the break that was mentioned above and think through your position. Consider your significant other’s stance as well. It is important to have thought through the issue rationally--and fully--and the best time to do that is while you’re both cooling off.

Of course sometimes there’s just no two ways around it and you can’t find common ground.
